CBL Product Suite 3.40 for z/OS

CBL Product Suite 3.40 for z/OS

Maintenance to CBL Product Suite for z/OS is distributed as service packages of APAR fixes and/or PTFs. It is transferred to the z/OS host via electronic delivery (HTTPS) and applied using SMP/E.

Each service package is referenced as Snnnnnnn or Xnnnnnnnn, where nnnnnnn is the service package number. "S" prefixed packages contain APAR fixes (Zaps) only whereas "X" prefixed packages contain PTFs (module replacements, etc.)

"S" prefixed service packages are supplied as z/OS JCL job streams which may simply be transferred to your z/OS host, tailored to your local SMP/E environment and submitted.

Before beginning install of a CBL Product Suite "X" prefixed service package, please see the README text file for information on alternative methods of downloading and installing the service.

If you choose not to download the .ZIP or .PAX.Z archives (see method 2 below), then an SMP/E RECEIVE FROMNETWORK job (SVCRFNHS or SVCRFNH) may be used to download files from each service package and optionally RECEIVE the service directly into the CBL Product Suite SMP/E global CSI.

Installation material electronic transfer methods are documented in detail in the README text file but are summarised as follows:

  1. Directly transfer the required service package materials from the CBL web server (via HTTPS or HTTP) to an HFS (or ZFS) directory on the z/OS host using either of the supplied job streams. (SVCRFNHS for transfer via HTTPS, or SVCRFNH for transfer via HTTP.)

Whichever job is chosen, it should be copied to a member of a job library on the z/OS system, tailored for your local environment and submitted for batch processing. Job tailoring instructions are found in the comment data at the start of each member.

In either job, if the "TRANSFERONLY" option is uncommented, then package material is simply transferred to the z/OS host. The sample job (SVCRNTS) is provided in the service package material to perform RECEIVE FROMNTS. This may be tailored and executed later to RECEIVE the service into your CBL Product Suite SMP/E global CSI.

Omit the "TRANSFERONLY" option to transfer and RECEIVE material directly into your CBL Product Suite SMP/E global CSI. Additionally, for installations running SMP/E 34.09 or later, uncomment/tailor the SMPJHOME and SMPCPATH DD statements to perform SHA-1 package integrity checking using Java.

  2. If you are unable to transfer the SMP/E service packages directly to your z/OS host from the CBL web server (perhaps because firewall restrictions prohibit it), then one of the product bundle archives (zip or pax.Z) may be downloaded to your local workstation as an alternative. Actions required following download of the two different archive formats are as follow:

    1. The zip archive must be unzipped to a folder of the Windows workstation before executing the supplied cblftpz.cmd Windows batch procedure to FTP the package material from the workstation to the z/OS host HFS directory.

    2. The pax.Z archive may be transferred from the Windows/Mac/Linux workstation to the z/OS host HFS directory and extracted using the z/OS Unix shell command, pax. (See README for sample pax utility extract archive command.)

CBL Product Suite 3.40 for z/VSE and z/VM

CBL Product Suite 3.40 for z/VSE and z/VM

Maintenance to CBL Product Suite for z/VM and z/VSE is distributed as a single .zip archive containing MSHP batch jobs for VSE and ZAPTEXT input for VM/CMS. An MSHP job or ZAPTEXT input file each applies service to just one of the CBL Product Suite components (i.e. SELCOPY, FileKit or CBLVCAT).

It is strongly recommended that all service is applied to the product components. However, if you choose to selectively apply maintenance, then please refer to the zap descriptions to determine whether service co-requisites and/or pre-requisites exist.

The following table contains a link to the latest CBL Product Suite for z/VM and z/VSE maintenance .Zip file.
